Green Shield Canada (GSC) is revolutionizing the healthcare industry as part of our mission to ensure better health for all!

In 1957, our founder, pharmacist William Wilkinson, witnessed a mother sacrifice her health by forgoing her own medicine to ensure she could afford a prescription for her sick daughter. He knew there had to be a better way! He introduced North America’s first prepaid drug plan, and Green Shield was born as a not-for-profit health benefits provider that re-invested its earnings to support better health for all Canadians.

THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL

The Director Total Rewards will architect and manage progressive total rewards strategies, frameworks, policies, and processes to attract, motivate and retain talent.  Leading a best-in-class Total Rewards COE, the role is influential in HR transformation initiatives and is a strategic partner and expert advisor to the Human Resources Business Partners. The role also ensures human resources reporting and analytics that support decision making related to GreenShield’s strategic goals.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You are a progressive Senior Leader who is innovative, works with agility and speed, has a strong digital ability, and is passionate about impacting the employee value proposition, engagement, and organization goals. You will also bring to the table:

  • Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in Business, Human Resources, or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience, including successful Director level leadership of a Total Rewards function
  • Extensive knowledge and financial management of progressive and innovative total rewards including executive and salary compensation, incentive plans, benefits, savings/pension plans, paid time off, and recognition plans
  • Comprehensive and deep subject matter expertise in the design of forward-thinking and progressive total rewards solutions
  • Strong analytical skills, quantitative skills, and business acumen to advance human resources reporting and analytics
  • Advanced technology/computer skills and capability in analyzing data, costs, and trends to enable forward-focused strategy and planning
  • Expertise in employment, payroll, and pension legislation 
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced written skills in developing policies, procedures, and communication plans
  • Ability to exercise discretion, tact, and professionalism in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information
  • High energy and ability to work independently
  • Track record of building effective relationships and partnering with stakeholders in a highly collaborative manner
  • Inclusive leadership approach and a high value on diversity, equity and inclusion and equity in the workplace
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other GreenShield office locations

NICE TO HAVE

  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP or CHRL)
  • Bilingualism (English/French)
  • Merger and acquisition experience
  • Experience with labour relations and Collective Agreements
  • Experience in the health industry
