Job Summary:  

The Sr. Specialist, Pension, Benefits & HR Systems is a key member of the HR Department.  This role will be responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the company’s benefits and pension plans as well as the maintenance of all HR related systems. In addition, the incumbent will be the liaison between our Toronto and Scranton offices for payroll processing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead benefits administration for HarperCollins Canada, Harlequin, and other Canadian entities under News Corp, including new hire enrollment and terminations, annual enrollment, reconciliation and remittance of invoices.
  • Administer pension plans in accordance with plan rules and complete regulatory filings.
  • Lead pension and benefits reconciliations and assist Finance with annual pension audits.
  • Assist with the design and delivery of employee communications and training sessions for our pension and benefits programs.
  • Manage short-term and long-term disability leaves and legislated leaves of absences.
  • Work closely with the Payroll processing team in Scranton.  Submit information required to process bi-weekly pay and year-end filing (incl. vacation pay, records of employment, T4 filing, pension adjustments and other annual processes).
  • Maintain integrity of employee records in applicable payroll, pension, and benefits systems, ensuring information inputted follows plan rules, internal policies, and legislation.
  • Prepare HR & benefits reports including vacation summaries, employee leaves, STD/LTD status, and other ad hoc reports as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the HR Team to complete common projects or assignments.
  • Be the point of contact for all business entities in addressing employee inquiries on applicable benefit programs, leaves of absences, disability, and retirement savings plans. 


  • Minimum 3 years of experience with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Experience with administering pension plans (DC and DB pension)
  • Experience with handling STD/LTD leaves.
  • Experience working with multiple vendors in pension, benefits and payroll and forming positive relationships
  • Experience using different payroll and HRIS systems (ex. Ultimate Software, Ceridian Insync)
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources is an asset.


  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong Excel skills with knowledge of pivot tables and formula functions.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments at one time
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
