Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Total Rewards department globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Executive Compensation, the Manager, Governance is responsible for providing direct support to the Executive Compensation team with respect to collecting and reporting on risk and conduct-related incidents. This individual will be responsible for managing the global risk and conduct-related incentive compensation adjustment process and act as a key interface with various stakeholders involved. This position requires an individual with a high degree of autonomy and a broad understanding of the financial industry and incentive compensation cycle.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Manages the end-to-end process to collect risk and conduct-related incidents from control and stewardship functions, including preparation of submission timelines, initiating follow-ups, and ensuring all necessary information has been collected and disseminated according to the established process.
  • Identifies risk and conduct-related governance and regulatory developments and emerging practices that may impact the Bank globally or in key countries/regions and assesses the Bank’s compliance or areas requiring change.
  • Assists the Governance team with the development and delivery of materials to support quarterly Compensation Review Committee meetings.
  • Manages the end-to-end process to identify roles considered material to the Bank, and the delivery of annual communication to identified employees.
  • Assists the Senior Manager in preparation of Management Proxy Circular, including tabular data. Provides other project support to the broader Executive Compensation team, as required.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Completion of an undergraduate University degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Executive Compensation and related governance and compliance
  • Financial industry expertise an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Inquisitive mindset; eager to learn and acquire knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint)
