Nature & Scope:

Reporting to the General Manager, Total Rewards and HR Systems, the Associate Compensation Leader is responsible for oversight, administration and analysis of the YMCA’s compensation systems. They will use their superior excel skills including complex formulas, pivot tables and basic VBA, to quickly pull together both basic and complex reports and analysis. They will use their experience in job evaluation to play a key role in the complete review and ongoing maintenance of the compensation system. The Associate Compensation Leader will be responsible for the annual merit increases for all hourly and salaried staff.

Compensation Analyst Responsibilities:

Supports all job evaluation for the association. Applies standard practices to ensure that positions are evaluated fairly, helping to ensure internal equity is maintained and the integrity of the compensation system remains intact. Contributes to the development of new job evaluation tools and methods.

Using advanced excel skills, prepares compensation and other reports with speed and accuracy; Collects appropriate data and generates reports in excel, Cognos and other reporting tools; Supports the development of the compensation strategy with in depth analysis and reporting. Ensures all data that leaves the department is consistent and accurate; Provides information for the annual board report, sunshine list and other reports for leaders across the association as needed; Completes all benefit and compensation surveys.

Takes ownership of the annual merit increase process for all full time and part time staff; Coordinates follow up on late/missing reviews ensuring all reviews are received; determines each staff’s eligibility using predefined guidelines. Calculates each staff’s increase and they are uploaded to the system on time; Sends letters to staff. Produces reports on rating levels; Ensures all guidelines accurately reflect current practices including any of the more unusual situations.

Provides expertise and oversight for salary recommendations, ensures the HR practitioners take a fair and consistent approach and guidelines are followed.

Provides salary information to GMs and VPs for the annual budget process. Works with Finance to ensure data entered in the system is accurate and reflective of the most current date and future merit forecasting for different employee groups is reflective of past trends.

Assists with on-going total rewards projects as assigned.

Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.

Ensures the health, safety and well-being of all children, youth and vulnerable people in YMCA programs. Commits to the professional responsibility of maintaining knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures, child and youth development and best practices to best serve and protect children, youth, and vulnerable people.

Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society.

Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.

Other duties as assigned

Compensation Analyst Qualifications:

  • Completion of a university degree or college diploma in related field, or related experience ▪ 3 years of experience with compensation and job evaluation
  • Completion of or working towards a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation is strongly preferred ▪ Strong understanding of compensation and job evaluation principles
  • Advanced Excel including complex formulas and basic VBA is required
  • Knowledge or significant experience using a Human Resource database
  • Experience using Cognos Analytics would be a significant asset
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and interpretive skills
  • Ability and comfort effectively communicating with all levels of staff and management
  • Strong critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities
  • Strong time-management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Results oriented, focused on team success
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Consciousness of the importance of attention to detail and double checking work for accuracy ▪ A high degree of integrity and professional ethics; ability to maintain confidentiality; discretion; ▪ Initiative and good judgment
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
