About the role:

The Manager, Payroll and Benefits operates within AGF’s Human Resources team and plays an integral role in managing all payroll and benefits administration and related processes. This role has the opportunity to influence at many levels and to work closely with various stakeholders across AGF Group of Companies.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day management and co-ordination of the activities of the Payroll and Benefits team, which includes providing coaching and learning opportunities, managing deliverables and performance, and ensuring that operational and compliance commitments are met and acting as the subject matter expert on core payroll and benefits topics
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing and administration of payroll including time & attendance within the established payroll platforms for multiple entities
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that payroll and benefits services are delivered at best practice standards
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and payroll and benefits policies and programs, including all year-end processing and reporting and ensure that all government legislative and internal regulatory requirements are met
  • Manage relationships and SLAs with payroll and benefits carriers/brokers/consultants
  • Advise on new legislation and market developments relating to payroll and benefits
  • Ensure that employee benefit and compensation records in all applicable systems (HRIS, payroll and benefit carrier records and databases) are accurate and consistent and are in compliance with benefit plan rules, internal policy, and applicable legislation through monthly data integrity checks
  • Identify operational efficiencies and process improvement opportunities to ensure a balance between capacity and deliverables.
  • Create alignment of business objectives, programs, and risk management to enterprise objectives
  • Define and adjust operations standards, policies and technologies to support business priorities
  • Oversee the enrolment of employee benefits and investments programs (e.g. Employee Share Purchase Plan)
  • Ensure training documentation, procedures, record keeping, security and business process changes for compensation and benefits systems functionality
  • Review, analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations for improvements to the operation of Workday HCM processes as they relate to payroll and benefits

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and CPM designation
  • 10+ years of payroll and benefits experience including at least 3 years of managerial/ leadership experience in complex environment (i.e. multi-province, Canada and US payroll, multi-entities, commission, etc.). Experience in HR Operations or Shared Services in financial services industry is preferred
  • Experience with ADP Pay@Work and Workday is strongly preferred
  • Solid financial acumen, including accounting principles and practices related to Payroll and Benefits
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and client-servicing skills; sound judgement and influencing skills
  • Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated experience to liaise with all levels of the organization and collaborate with key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of employment standards and other relevant provincial employment legislation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, with the ability to break down complex problems and simplify for communication (verbal including strong presentation skills as well as written) and make recommendations based on interpretation of analysis
  • Critical thinker who can connect the big picture to impact change
  • High degree of proactivity and demonstrated ability to make things happen, with ability to prioritize conflicting priorities and competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Aptitude to leverage technology to simplify internal processes, minimize manual work and limit delays in processing
