Payroll Specialist

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & HRIS, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely processing of the company's payroll, as well as providing necessary reports on all Payroll related information. Participates in daily Payroll data entry and processing and supports a variety of day-to-day Payroll activities as well as long-term projects. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for contributing to the overall effectiveness and productivity of the Payroll department.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Perform Payroll maintenance (hiring, transfers, etc.)
  • Respond to emails and phone calls from associates requiring Payroll assistance
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting for time and attendance
  • Run UTA/PTO reports, prepare and balance GL reports
  • Run reports for RRSP contribution, CSB and 401k contribution
  • Run reports for Payroll deductions, Garnishments, Family Support, etc.
  • Run reports for EHT and Taxes remittance
  • WSIB reports
  • Run Payroll adjustments, upload commission reports, US Payroll quarterly reports and file transfers
  • Bonus reports and auditing
  • Payroll year-end reconciliation
  • Salary verification and letters of employment. Prepare cheque requisitions

Education and Experience:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in related field, or 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • 3 years in related work experience
  • CPA designation considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Payroll/HR software programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
  • Multi-tasking, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills
